Rasciel’s Hand and Machine-Embroidered Barong Tagalog is made with the highest quality materials and strict attention to detail. Its exclusive tailors’ trade secret techniques used in the production ensure that every custom-made Barong fits perfectly. The tailors of Barong Tagalog take pride in making only premium products, and it shows in every stitch.
In March 1981, the surviving heirs of the founder of Rasciel’s Hand and Machine Embroidery, Mrs. Concordia “Cora” Mercado and her husband, Mr. Rotilio L. Mercado, continued the Barong Tagalog business firm. Each felt that the business was at the crossroads, and that their decision would have a substantial impact, for better or worse, on the business future and their own individual fortunes. Mrs. Cora Y. Mercado, at the age of 29, gave up her current job that time as a secretary in one company in some part of Manila. Together with her husband, they decided to put up the business. Since Lumban, Laguna is one of the provinces famous for embroidery
or “burda” they decided to establish the business there. The husband is an engineer in National Power Corporation at Calamba, Laguna. He helped her manage the business which was expanded, from hand and machine-embroidered Barong Tagalog to the development of other designs in different fabrics of cloth, which are more premium-priced, thus, high profit items.
Rasciel’s Hand and Machine Embroidery was founded 35 years ago by Mrs. Mercado, a very hardworking woman who also manufactures in her own small business. Her experience in embroidery and sewing dates back to her elementary and secondary years, between the ages of 12-15. She is an independent dealer of Barong Tagalog in Lumban, Laguna since 1981.
She successfully finished her college and started to run her business through the help of her husband. She hires some people in their community to be her embroiderer.
